ITINERARIES FOR EVERYONE
Trekking
Our Bed & Breakfast is surrounded by over two hundred kilometers of trails that offer tours of different length and difficulty: from short walks to paths for skilled hikers.
For the most experienced ones, there are three routes, with their own map, that help discover a territory famous for its 300 hectares of vineyards and for its historical and cultural artifacts.
From Chiarina you can reach Mount Bisbino (1325 mamsl, Sasso Gordona (1410 mamsl), Mount Generoso (1701 mamsl) and Val Mara. Hence, we will be happy to advise our guests on the route that best meets their needs.
MUSEUM
Back to the future
Observing the landscape of the Muggio Valley you can make a journey through time. The villages perched on the side of the mountain, the mills and the coal fields; the numerous testimonies of peasant civilizations bring us back in time; and the traditions that were unchanged until today, make this place an open-air museum full of surprises.
Surprises that the ethnographic museum of Casa Cantoni in Cabbio (also known as MEVM) aims to share with visitors both inside its spaces (in which it preserves photos, documents and objects related to the activities of the past) and outside, encouraging the exploration of the surrounding area.
MERENDERIA
Delicacies of the Valley
The Muggio Vallet is known for its typical products. First amongst all the Zincarlin. This cheese has a unique aroma, due to the characteristic flora of the Valley, is recognizable for its upside-down cup shape, and is still produced following ancestral techniques.
There is also the polenta flour made with a rare red corn (an ancient Ticino variety of very high quality) ground in the historic Bruzella water mill that reaches many village stores and local caves every day.
Then there is the Amaro Generoso, an aperitif that reinterprets the "medeghètt", the typical liquor of the Muggio Valley based on Artemisia absinthium, a plant that stimulates appetite and helps digestion. And we cannot forget our Merlot and many other delicacies, some of which can be tasted in our snack bar.
PATHS
Bike
The numerous paths of Mendrisiotto are well-known among two wheels lovers. The bike is perfect for exploring riverside promenades and valleys, especially ours, and it offers one of the best ways to enjoy nature, feeling all its scents and enjoying the privileged view while cycling.
At our bed & breakfast guests can always find support in organizing a ride in the Valley with their family and/or with a local guide that helps them not to miss the best spots and to choose the route with the right difficulty, suitable for their habits and expectations, to make their holiday memorable.
TOURIST FISHING
Fishing
The Muggio Valley is crossed by the Breggia stream where you can also fish - holidaymakers can take a tourist license for 2 or 7 days. The stream has two springs: one at an altitude of 1300 meters, in the area of Monte d'Orimento (Italy), and the other in Valle della Crotta. The river after twenty kilometers flows into Lake Como in Cernobbio.
